Elements of Theatre Design is an 8-credit second-semester module that forms part of your
Higher Certificate in Performing Arts Technology. This module seeks to support students in
learning some basic theatre design, fabrication and installation skills and techniques.
This module seeks to offer students some tangible and practical skills related to script
analysis, design iteration and practical object-making. Particular attention is given to
introducing students to practical costume, prop and set-making related to live performance - with the HC/Industry interface project that uses The Ugly Noo Noo and Tin Bucket Drum as our bases for creation and creativity.
What to Expect:
1. An introduction to production design and aesthetics.
2. An introduction to designing and fabricating for live performance - where form meets function and prioritises safety for the performer, the technician and the stagehands.
4. Learning outcomes
On completion of this module students will:
• Formulate a basic design concept for a live production/dissect a design concept for a live production through basic research inputs/outputs;
• Implement a basic design concept for live/simulated production.
