Welcome to Arts Administration II!

This is a first semester module in your Advanced Diploma programme.

The purpose of this module is to develop the cognitive awareness of students as it relates to publicity for events, arts centres and websites; understand a balance sheet and financial Theatre/Arts Centre management; the administering of the arts as it relates to a business plan, constitution, and funding proposals in order to provide increased knowledge on business aspects of theatre. A grounding in basic marketing and financial principles is introduced, as well as the practical application of safety regulations within Theatre spaces, so the student develops a well-informed broad field of theatre and associated principles.

The module requires you to work independently as well as within a group in relation to various module outputs and it is underlined by various skills to aid your entrepreneurial development as an arts practitioner in the South African context. All deadlines are given at the beginning of the semester to enable your efficient planning.

This is a blended module which is delivered hybridly. There are 2 weekly contact hours for this module, over the duration of the semester, these are split variously into lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials. Seminars and lectures are supplemented with PowerPoint presentations and other reading and online resources.
